Comment on 133 Recent Results in the Theory of Graph Spectra, by D. M. Cvetkovic, M. Doob, I. Gutman, and A. Torgasev
I wasn't able to vote because I got a Google "Error: Sorry" message after posting it. When I returned later, the poll was closed.
I did not realize that individual chapters of the book were available for purchase as PDF files. Thanks for pointing that out. However, that still seems less satisfactory than having the book be available as a hardcopy. For starters, it seems that each chapter costs $31.50, so that the whole book would cost over $400.

Because no barely voter has replied so far, please comment accordingly if you know about the pros and cons of this book.
Even if it is not possible to settle the matter, I think it is useful in all respects to know about the pros and cons.

That's not accurate.
Abebooks is an reseller and might have a leftover copy.
One must check if the publisher is printing it. Cambridge Univ Press, Amazon, Barnes and Noble nobody shows it in print.

Within the last 8 hours there were two 'highly' votes (on 35 and 12) and two book submissions. Some reported problems with page loading and I try to handle these but it seems they are directly related to the increasing number of votings. To reach the given goal I think the number of votes should be much higher compared to the number of votings.
Actually I think only those books should be submitted for which at minimum the submitter has a 'highly' vote for.
Please send me an email in order to discuss the procedure to cleanup the voting list in more detail.

Whatever you think is right.
I have no axe to grind here :-)
I come across things in the normal course of work and put them on the website.
I think traffic has slowed down.
Do you have any estimate?
That is probably why you don't see votes on the most recent contributions

Sandeep,
please note that it is not the intention of this site to list all out-of-print math-books. Because there is obviously no relevant support, I would like to remove this submission either completely or to move it into a special, new folder (say books_sans_voting_support).
Please comment.

Comment on 94 Van Mill, Introduction to infinite dimensional topology
This book is on print. However, I recommend "Infinite dimensional topology of function spaces" better because it's basically an update on the first book. Both books are still on print.
I know all this because I have both books and I made the mistake of buying the old edition before knowing there was a new one.

Comment on 70 The Concept of a Riemann Surface by Hermann Weyl
At 8/08/2008 this poll was closed for two weeks with the result:
barely 0 (0%), moderately 5 (11%), highly 39 (88%).
It was closed in order to clarify the sudden appearance of barely-votes on all items except this one. The administrator cannot detect from where these barely-votes came, nor it is possible to delete or change any votes. Only for the voter it is possible to change his own vote in case of error.

These are my mistakes.
I usually check Amazon and BN.com
I did not realize I could check Ams.org as well.
The site could add a message at the top for future use: "Check Amazon, bn, AMS.org before adding a listing"

Comment on 56 K. R. Goodearl, Von Neumann Regular Rings, Second Edition, ISBN 0-89464-632-X
I cannot believe that any of the "barely" votes came from workers in noncommutative ring theory, for whom Goodearl's book is extremely valuable. This is reflected in the MR and Zentralblatt reviews of the book.
The instructions on this Web site state: "If you have voted 'barely' in a particular case, you should be able to give some reasoning." I challenge the voters in question to do so.

I came here because of Timothy Chow's posts on sci.math. I think it's a wonderful idea, if the word gets out.
I do have a complaint, though. In Konqueror, my usual browser, nothing shows on this page except the bar on the top. I haven't had any problems with other blogspot.com blogs. Coule you see about making the site more cross-browser compatible?

For all who publish comments with a Google account there is a nice little feature to receive any related follow-up comments by email.
To show how to discover and use this feature, a image is probably better than words: comment_email.gif 84 KB.
If you don't want to comment but only to stay updated about follow-up comments on a certain book, you may publish a comment with the single word 'hidethiscomment' in order to use this feature. This way I will be able to hide these automatically -- later, if too many of such dummy comments appear.
